Five ways to keep on top of your House Cleaning

Life is busy, and there feels like there isn't enough time in the day to keep on top of everything that needs to be done. Keeping the house clean is often put off so that the tasks start to feel daunting. But there are a few quick and simple things that can be done to keep on top of house cleaning, and build a daily routine that will change the way you live in your home and free up time for the fun stuff.

  1. Make your bed first thing

It may seem like a simple thing to do, and not at the top of your priority list, but making your bed can change the way you feel for the whole day. It's the first thing people see when entering your room, and first impressions count - even if it is just the kids. If you have children, then this should be their responsibility and give them a sense of pride in how they keep their own room tidy. It's quick and easy to do but can totally change the atmosphere in a room.

     2.  Declutter and Clear Surfaces

Even if your house is clean, it can still be cluttered with lots of things left out on surfaces. When you declutter and there's less stuff in your house it makes it easier to clean, and can also help you reduce stress by creating physical and mental space.

      3.  Start a Daily Cleaning Routine

Set aside 15 minutes a day for small cleaning tasks that over time reduce the amount of cleaning that needs to be done. TOMM (The Organised Mum Method) is a realistic and fun way to keep on top of your home. If you want to have a home that looks great, have weekends that are free of housework and still have time in the week to get on with the stuff that you actually enjoy.

Maintaining clean spaces is the most important piece of house cleaning. You can clean once a month every month, but daily maintenance is what really keeps the house organised.

       4.  Focus on High Traffic Areas

Places like living areas and kitchen get used more than other rooms and are more visible to guests. So, keeping these places clean may radiate to the rest of your home and keeping the floors clean in these areas will reduce the amount of dirt tracked into other areas of the home. Aim to clean the floors in these rooms once a day and hard floors mop once a week.

       5.  Keep on top of the Laundry

Laundry can be put out of sight and out of mind, until it builds up and becomes a huge task.  We find that dividing the load throughout the week works better for busy families and makes the task less daunting.

Try loading your machine in the morning before work, then press the button once you get home - thanking yourself that you have already loaded it that morning.
