From our Kitchen Table to the Houses of Parliament

Why purpose still leads everything we do!

Last week, we were invited to Westmenister  — a place we never imagined we’d find ourselves when we started MadeKind. We were invited to the Houses of Parliament by MP Sarah Dyke, and the 'What Women Want' movement, which was set up to inspire and engage women to collaborate and create a better world for all.

30 years ago, Lynne Franks invited icons including Germaine Greer, Sinead O'Connor, Anita Roddick and Chrissie Hynde to London's Southbank to join thousands of women who were contemplating the powerful question: What do women want?

Three decades on the question 'What women want' feels more relevant than ever, and 2025 see's the movement asking that question once more. While we were at Westminster myself and Anita gave our answers. To be honest, there's a lot we want for women around the world - and closer to home, for our daughters, but we had to choose one. I wrote that I wanted safer streets for women, to prevent violence, harmful attitudes and behaviours towards women and girls. Anita reflected on the struggle we face as  female founders of a small business, with women led businesses only getting 2% of UK Venture Capital.

But on reflection, MadeKind didn’t begin with a big plan, a perfect pitch deck, or a growth strategy.
It began at home.

We were two mums, becoming more and more aware of what we were using in our homes — and how many ingredients in everyday products were doing more harm than good. We were worried about what our children were breathing in, and what was going down the drain into the environment, harming the ecosystem.

And when we couldn’t find anything that felt truly safe, non-toxic, and still effective… we decided to create it ourselves.

That’s what drives us: to create products that protect people and the planet, without compromise.
To help families like ours choose better.
To prove that natural cleaning products can be powerful, stylish, and incredibly effective.
To do business in a way that is thoughtful, transparent, and sustainable.

Because being purpose-driven means more than what we make — it’s how we make it, how we treat our customers, how we look after the earth, and how we show up in our community.

It means asking the harder questions:

  • Is this ingredient safe enough for our children?

  • Can this bottle be refilled, reused or recycled ?

  • Does this supplier share our ethos and values?

  • Can we scale without losing sight of what matters?

We’re proud to say that purpose has led every decision we’ve made, from our formulas and packaging to the way we build partnerships and choose stockists.

So to be recognised for that — for starting something small, something rooted in care — was deeply humbling. It reminded us how powerful small businesses can be. Not just in the products they sell, but in the values they stand for.

We're still small. But we know now that small can still be mighty — and meaningful. Going to Westminster with such an incredible group of trailblazers and change makers reminded us that doing business with purpose is not only possible, it’s essential.
