The MadeKind Guide to a Naturally Clean Mattress
Cleaning your mattress regularly, ideally every 3 to 6 months, removes dust mites and allergens while keeping your bedroom smelling fresh without the use of harsh chemicals.
This guide uses a simple routine and plant-based power to ensure your sleep sanctuary is both hygienic and chemical-free.
- Strip and Wash Bedding
Remove all bedlinen, including your mattress protector. Use a natural, non-toxic laundry cleaner and wash on a high temperature (60°C) to effectively eliminate bacteria and mites. -
Vacuum Your Mattress
Use your vacuum’s upholstery attachment to thoroughly clean the top, sides, and seams. If you have a memory foam mattress, be gentle to avoid damaging the structure. -
Spot Treat Stains Naturally
For spills or yellowing, use the MadeKind Multi Surface Cleaner. The unique formula uses natural surfactants to lift grime, and the essential oils of Lavender, Rosemary and Peppermint naturally combat bacteria, leaving your mattress smelling fresh. Spray sparingly onto an organic cotton cloth and gently dab the stain. Never soak the mattress, as moisture can lead to mould. - Deodorise with Bicarbonate of Soda
Sieve a thin layer of bicarbonate of soda over the entire mattress surface. Let it sit for at least 1 hour (ideally 24 hours) to absorb moisture and neutralise odors. Vacuum the powder away thoroughly when finished. - Let it Breathe
Before remaking the bed, open the windows and leave the mattress to air.
